My name is Jake. I was in the Navy in a Battle
Ship and then after 8 months. Pilots were need and I qualified and Ended up on a Brand new Aircraft Carrier. I will use fictional names of everything but the story. It is true for World War Two.
I finally get a plane to fly my first mission. I was sweaty, scared, pray full ready to fly near God. I tried to think of anything positive I tried to think of before I flew right into the sea after take off. I did it. Off and up in the air to fight the enemy.
My initial fear; imbedded in me, being handled, mentally.
Could not want for a clearer day. There; few if any clouds. Full sun around 13:20 or near. Everything I did not want and was uncomfortable with. This or that day. I rather a cloudy day, night time, early morning, dark night for this ariel Knight. Near the ground and short scurvy mission. That is what it is. My way or their usual way. Fighting the third way, no one wants to fly into air wars, are the rules of war. Then there is the Fourth kind. Not the alien fourth kind in the movies.
The Americans captured a Nazi Bomber and a few other small Nazi planes.
After the Battle of the Bulge. Americans were fed up. Time now for pay back. Deciding they would fly the Nazi planes like the Germans drove the American tanks. The Air Garble Battle.
Typically. We fly our very recognizable planes. The enemy flies their recognizable planes. Then the 8 to 10 year boys memorize what planes belong to us or the enemy. Remember. No internet. School is canceled a lot. What else but memorize planes that may or not bomb the hell out of you. You? Just trying to experience life. As I am praying through another day of death and destruction.
Our planes are almost on target. Then. Just like the Commander promised. We become God’s Warders. Our chant is: O God. Well, here they come. GW’s.
GWs are fighting the enemy in the air. Not a lot of firing a few here and there but it is more positioning the plane to attack. Not getting a shot in the back is the goal of all pilots on both sides.
Seeing German planes with American nose art. That was a bit unsettling. Are they to lock on and fire upon or hold back and relax. The enemy thinking the very same thing was also confused on what was what. Who was who? Plus. What was what not?
There was firing in the very beginning. No hits. All targets are missed. The chatter was enemy shooting their own, GW’s shooting their own. Random and rarely proper enemy vs enemy and then GW vs enemy. Unfortunately total confusion and nothing but babbling during The Garbled, as in talkative. Battle as in almost and hour of just flying around trying to figure why all of a sudden every pilot was flying through garbled garble on the airwaves of a Battle. German, English, broken German talking English, Talking bad German by GW’s. American, German and Garbled communication.
Frustrated.
Everyone flew back home. No fighting, or bombing or sky jousting. Minimal damage on both sides from the early encounters. Our planes landed first the American German planes landed after us but was very much under an immediate firing if needed. Still questionable friend and foe to the max. Thinking the same on each side separately. I still have a copy of the film the German or American plane flying. You can see American markings on what is an actual German Bomber.
I retired with air medals given to me by the President. Me! Major Jack. WWII Pilot.
Recorded by Rick Rupture. I hate my last name, Rupture? Cut my arms again; plus, please cut the back of my legs. Dr Happy Felix is working on my problems. When I screw up. I have to record these tapes. Give them to EChumly. Get paid and go on my way as I heal from the cuttings. Not sure of the date. I think it is June or midway between May and July? Maybe Wednesday?
